At the age of 16, he joined Baqiyathus Salihath, a famous Islamic seminary in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He studied under renowned teachers such as Sheikhuna Sayyid Muhammad Ali Shihab Thangal and Sheikhuna Sayyid Abdur Rahman Bafaqi Thangal. He completed his studies in 1942 and returned to Kerala as a qualified scholar and teacher. He taught at various mosques and madrasas in Malappuram and neighboring districts.
